For Librarians

1. For Libraries

ICR Publications recognises the important role of academic and research libraries in connecting researchers, students, educators, and institutions with reliable scholarly information. Libraries are essential partners in the discovery, organisation, preservation, and responsible dissemination of academic research.

Our publishing activities are designed to support broad access to scholarly content and to make journal and article information accessible through library catalogues, institutional systems, scholarly databases, research discovery services, and other academic information platforms.

This page provides information for librarians, repository managers, research-support teams, scholarly communication professionals, indexing services, discovery providers, and institutional administrators who work with ICR Publications content.

2. Open Access to ICR Publications

ICR Publications supports open scholarly communication by providing online access to published research according to the open-access and licensing policies of each journal.

Readers generally do not need an institutional subscription to access open-access articles published by ICR Publications. Libraries may therefore include ICR Publications journals and articles within:

  • Library electronic-resource directories;
  • A–Z journal lists;
  • Subject and research guides;
  • Institutional library portals;
  • Open-access resource collections;
  • Reading and resource lists;
  • Research discovery systems; and
  • Other appropriate academic information services.

Libraries should refer to the individual journal and article pages for the applicable licence, copyright statement, and reuse conditions.

3. Discovery and Indexing

ICR Publications seeks to improve the discoverability and visibility of published research through appropriate scholarly infrastructure and metadata services.

Depending on the individual journal, published content may be discoverable through:

  • Journal websites;
  • DOI and scholarly linking services;
  • Academic search engines;
  • Library discovery platforms;
  • Subject-specific databases;
  • Abstracting and indexing services;
  • Institutional repositories;
  • Researcher identifier systems; and
  • Other scholarly communication platforms.

Coverage by a particular indexing or discovery service varies between journals. Libraries should consult the relevant journal website for current indexing and abstracting information.

4. Metadata and Cataloguing

Accurate metadata is important for ensuring that scholarly content can be identified, discovered, cited, linked, and managed effectively by libraries and research systems.

ICR Publications provides publication metadata associated with journal articles and other scholarly content. Depending on the publication, metadata may include:

  • Article title;
  • Author names;
  • Author affiliations;
  • ORCID identifiers, where supplied and verified;
  • Abstract;
  • Keywords;
  • Journal title;
  • ISSN or eISSN;
  • Volume and issue information;
  • Publication date;
  • Page or article information;
  • Digital Object Identifier (DOI);
  • Reference information;
  • Funding information, where provided;
  • Copyright information; and
  • Open-access licence information.

Libraries, discovery providers, indexing organisations, and catalogue administrators may contact ICR Publications if additional metadata or clarification is required.

5. Persistent Identifiers and Linking

Persistent scholarly identifiers help maintain reliable links between articles, authors, journals, institutions, and related research information.

Where applicable, ICR Publications uses Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for published articles. Libraries are encouraged to use DOI-based links when adding articles to catalogues, reading lists, repositories, research guides, or discovery services because DOI links are designed to provide persistent identification of scholarly content.

Libraries should avoid relying only on temporary session URLs or manually constructed links where a persistent article identifier is available.

Author ORCID identifiers may also be displayed in article metadata where authors have supplied and authenticated them through the journal's publishing system.

6. Institutional Repositories

ICR Publications recognises the role of institutional repositories in improving research accessibility, institutional visibility, and long-term scholarly communication.

Authors and institutions should follow the copyright and licensing conditions applicable to the published article when depositing content in an institutional or subject repository.

Repository administrators should ensure that deposited records contain accurate bibliographic information and, where available:

  • The article title;
  • Complete author information;
  • Journal title;
  • Publication year;
  • Volume and issue;
  • Article DOI;
  • Publisher information;
  • Applicable licence; and
  • A link to the Version of Record.

Where an article is published under an open-access licence that permits redistribution, repositories should clearly retain the original copyright and licence information.

If a library or repository administrator is uncertain about the version that may be deposited or the applicable reuse conditions, they may contact the Editorial or Publishing Office for clarification.

7. Licensing and Reuse

Copyright and reuse conditions are stated on the relevant journal or article page. Libraries should use the licence attached to the individual publication when determining how content may be copied, distributed, displayed, deposited, adapted, or reused.

Where content is distributed under a Creative Commons licence, use and redistribution must follow the conditions of that licence.

Libraries should ensure that:

  • Author attribution is retained;
  • The original publication is properly cited;
  • The DOI or Version of Record is linked where appropriate;
  • The applicable licence is identified;
  • Any changes or adaptations are indicated where required; and
  • Reuse does not misrepresent the authors, journal, or publisher.

Questions concerning licensing, reuse, permissions, or repository deposit may be directed to ICR Publications.

8. Digital Preservation and Long-Term Access

Preservation of the scholarly record is an important responsibility of academic publishing. ICR Publications seeks to maintain reliable access to published journal content and associated publication metadata.

Our publishing infrastructure is developed with consideration for:

  • Long-term accessibility of published articles;
  • Stable article identification;
  • Accurate publication metadata;
  • Version control and publication history;
  • Corrections, retractions, and other post-publication notices;
  • Responsible maintenance of the scholarly record; and
  • Interoperability with relevant scholarly communication services.

Preservation arrangements may differ between individual journals. Libraries requiring specific information about preservation or archival arrangements for a particular journal may contact the Publishing Office.

Libraries and discovery-service providers are welcome to include ICR Publications content in appropriate academic discovery environments, subject to applicable metadata, copyright, and licensing requirements.

We encourage the accurate representation of:

  • ISSNs and eISSNs;
  • Publisher information;
  • Journal URLs;
  • Article DOIs;
  • Open-access status;
  • Copyright and licence information; and
  • Publication dates and bibliographic information.

If a journal changes its title, URL, publication frequency, ownership, or other important bibliographic information, libraries and discovery providers are encouraged to use the most recent information provided by the journal or publisher.

10. Usage and Publication Information

ICR Publications may provide article- and journal-level information intended to help readers, authors, institutions, and libraries understand the reach and use of scholarly publications.

  • Article views;
  • File downloads;
  • Citation information;
  • Publication dates;
  • Article identifiers;
  • Version information; and
  • Other scholarly metrics or indicators.

Metrics should be interpreted carefully and should not be treated as a direct measure of the academic quality of an individual article, author, institution, or journal.

Libraries requiring publication or journal information for institutional assessment, cataloguing, or research-support purposes may contact the publisher.
